The Finish
Project type
Architectural Wood Finish
Location
Midland, Texas
The finish is treated as part of the architecture, not simply a protective coating. Each piece is finished by hand to reveal warmth, contrast and depth while preserving the natural character of the cedar. Honey and amber tones give way to tobacco hues, accentuating the grain and brining definition to moldings, carved details and shadow lines. Variation in the wood are embraced rather than concealed, giving every finished piece a richness and character unique to the material itself.
The finish is also intended to age gracefully rather than remain visually static, Exposure, handling and time gradually soften the color and deepen its character, allowing for the surface to develop the quiet patina associated with old world architectural woodwork. The result is neither perfectly uniform nor factory made, but warm, dimensional and alive. A finish designed to become more beautiful and individual as the years pass.
